glorp

From Destiny Wiki
Revision as of 20:09, 4 September 2025 by Devonnn (talk | contribs) (Rare variants: add probability+user-based dividers for table)
"found a new friend"[1]

The glorp emote is cat depicted as an alien, with antennae protruding from his head and (typically) green fur. Glorp, similar to WEOW , has a set of rare variants.

Use

The emote acts similarly to WEOW as an emote that can be posted soley for the fun of it, when aliens/science fiction/space is mentioned, or as an absurdist nonsense word that acts as a stand-in for any numbers of words, e.g. "what the glorp", "any glorpers?", "glorping", etc.[2] Additionally, it is common for individuals to post emojis (such as satellites, stars, etc.) or non-english characters that resemble a hypothetical alien language along with the emote.

Origins

The concept of glorp and similar emotes (while not present in DGG Chat) is related to alienposting, a prominent meme that relies upon oddly colored animals with antennae that speak in gibberish pitch-shifted voices.

Rare variants

Destiny finds a rare glorp on Factorio. Wikipedia[3]

While the rare variants are thought of as having a programmed random occurrence, they are actually set to only happen at certain times to reduce the chances of multiple chatters from getting them at the same time. This is done by changing messages with a certain Unix timestamp Wikipedia ending in predetermined strings (gold with "69", platinum with "420", emerald with "6969", and diamond with "42069") to the rare variants, making it unlikely to be able to game the system (as a user would have to post the emote at the exact millisecond needed for the rare variant)—effectively creating what appears to be random chance. A few days after being added, rare variants were 10 times more rare than they are now (and were originally).

Probability-based
Gold Glorp Has a roughly 1 in 1000 (0.1%) chance in occurring. Additionally, the chat's Bot always has gold glorps.
Platinum Glorp Has a roughly 1 in 10,000 (0.01%) chance in occurring.
Emerald Glorp Has a roughly 1 in 100,000 (0.001%) chance in occurring.
Diamond Glorp Has a roughly 1 in 1,000,000 (0.0001%) chance in occurring. You have a higher chance of being struck by lightning than typing an emerald glorp.
User-based
Bow Glorp Pride month variant. Additionally, PRSEK, cyver, and Destiny always have this glorp.[4]
