Portal problem

From Destiny Wiki

The portal problem is a hypothetical physics problem which asks the viewer whether or not, given portals from the video game series Portal Wikipedia were to exist, how a cube would react to being to having a portal slammed down upon it. The first result (denoted as A in the photograph) shows a cube plopping down with little energy to the floor, while the second result (marked B) shows the cube being launched through the air vertically. The problem was (and remains) hotly contested within DGG with strong and varied opinions among chatters, orbiters, and even between Destiny and Dan, in a manner similar to the more contemporary YEE vs PEPE conflict.

The Portal Debate

The introduction of the portal problem led to a lengthy debate on stream between Destiny and various chatters (to include Exskillsme.)

A is the only right answer.

B is the only right answer.
114 / 731 (16%)
A, but I could see B being correct.

B, but I could see A being correct.**
215 / 731 (29%)
* In the VOD, the last known frame of the strawpoll.me (now defunct site) shows a total of 731 votes, so these values are used though different values may exist.

** Destiny indicates he believes that he believes in the fourth option, and states that anyone who thinks A is the correct answer is retarded, with anyone voting for the third option having probable retardation.

Sean A. Carroll

On June 11 2019, Destiny had a conversion with Sean M. Carroll Wikipedia, a theoretical physicist, who said the correct answer was B.[1] He motivated it by considering an observer positioned on the other side of the orange portal, i.e. stationary with respect to the moving orange portal. That observer would then see a cube moving towards him. When the cube crosses through the portal, the observer would still see the cube continue moving toward him so the cube has to continue moving vertically.
